Provincewide Progress

Across the province, more students are achieving success:

Ontario's elementary students

  • 84 per cent of English-language Grade 6 students met the provincial standard in reading in 2022-23.
  • 97 per cent of French-language Grade 6 students met the provincial standard in reading in 2022-23.

Ontario's secondary students

  • At the end of the 2021-22 school year, 80 per cent of Grade 10 students had earned 16 or more credits — This is a one percentage point decrease when compared to the end of 2019-20 school year.
  • At the end of the 2021-22 school year, 83 per cent of Grade 11 students had earned 23 or more credits – This is one percentage point decrease compared to the end of 2019-20 school year.
  • 85 per cent of English-language students passed the Grade 10 literacy test in 2022-23.
  • 91 per cent of French-language students passed the Grade 10 literacy test in 2022-23.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, EQAO assessments were suspended for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years. Given that there were no EQAO assessment results for these academic years and due to changes to the assessments implemented starting 2021-22, the Progress in Grade 6 Reading and Progress in Grade 10 Literacy Test indicators are not available.
