School Board Progress Reports

Credit Accumulation by the End of Grade 10

The 'Earning 16 or More Credits by the End of Grade 10' indicator is the percentage of students who accumulated 16 or more credits after two years of secondary school out of the total number of students who completed two years of secondary school.

Students taking English as a second language programs, English literacy development courses and special needs programs are included in the indicator calculation.

Grade 9 or 10 students normally take a full course load of eight credits each year. Research shows that the successful completion of 16 credits by the end of Grade 10 keeps students on track to graduate with their peers.

School boards annually report the number of students who finished Grade 10 and how many of them earned 16 or more credits during their Grade 9 and 10 school years. Credits are counted if they are part of the student's transcript at the end of June. Courses taken at summer school or that conclude after June 30 are counted in the following year.
